Lying Bastard
By Reagan Boggs

Don’t try to change faces
To get in my good graces
I can see you for what you are
A foolish dreamer
That’s your big appeal
But you can’t tell the dream
from what is real

I’m always guarded
A little cold-hearted
But I had so much faith in you
Lies thrown on the table
You beg to retract
But once you spit them out
You can never bite them back

So I ask, would the defendant stand
You’re guilty
You’re a lying bastard and not a man
I see no remorse there’s no second thoughts
Just polite sadness because you’re caught
A sentence for one so skilled in the art
Is that your life becomes as
empty as your heart

Go from blind rage to an aching pain
Replay those words again and again
A filthy taste is left by the truth
But I can see so clearly
I could stare a hole straight through you

So I ask, would the defendant stand
You’re guilty
You’re a “lying bastard” and not a man
I see no remorse there’s no second thoughts
Just polite sadness because you’re caught
A sentence for one so skilled in the art
Is that your life becomes as empty as your heart
